daily dosha cycles

Before we jump into creating your personal dinacharya, it’s essential to understand the daily dosha cycles.

In Ayurveda, the 24-hour day is divided into 6 time periods and each one is governed by one of the three doshas ~ vata, pitta and kapha in a repeated cycle. This cycle aligns with natural energies in nature, and within the body, and can guide us in choosing optimal times for activities such as sleeping, eating, exercising, working and self care.

Here are the dosha times of day:

Morning Kapha Time ~ 6:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Earth & Water Elements Dominate

Energy: Heavy, slow, cool, stable
Best for: Gentle movement, light and nourishing breakfast, grounding rituals
Not ideal for: Sleeping in or heavy food

Midday Pitta Time ~ 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Fire & Water Elements Dominate (Mostly Fire)
